Catalyst Vent Plug

Catalyst vent plugs recombine hydrogen and oxygen into water and return it to the cell, reducing water loss and the frequency of electrolyte topping-up.

Designed for major lead-acid and nickel-cadmium cell types, the range includes three models with adaptors and rubber washers. Select the plug for the cell connection and maximum gassing current.

Choose the model for your battery

ModelComponent numberCell capacityAdaptor
NP15S203 000 37110–90 Ah16 mm
NP35M203 000 372100–350 Ah24 mm
NP50L203 000 373300–1,200 Ah24 mm

Final selection depends on the maximum gassing current as well as the cell capacity and connection size.

Gas recombination technology

Water recovery

Up to 98% recombination

A porous ceramic catalyst recombines hydrogen and oxygen into water, which drips back into the cell.

Maintenance

Reduced topping-up

Returning water to the electrolyte reduces water consumption and topping-up frequency.

Cell protection

Flame protection

The vent plug is designed to prevent flames and sparks from entering the cell.

Applications and operating limits

  • Stationary nickel-cadmium battery installations, operating up to 1.55 V per cell.
  • Stationary lead-acid battery installations, operating up to 2.4 V per cell.
  • Industrial standby batteries requiring reduced electrolyte water loss.

Battery rooms must retain adequate ventilation. Gas recombination does not replace the ventilation required for the installation.

Installation and maintenance

  1. Set the electrolyte to its nominal maximum level before fitting the plug. Do not overfill.
  2. Remove the normal cell plug and securely fit the catalyst vent plug with its adaptor and rubber washer.
  3. Inspect electrolyte levels. If the level reaches the minimum mark, top up to the nominal level with purified water.

Handle the plug carefully: impacts or falls can damage the internal porous ceramic components. Do not use damaged plugs. Protect plugs from direct sunlight and store removed plugs upright to allow retained water to drain.
