NALE / NAM / NAH

NICA single-cell nickel-cadmium batteries provide reliable backup power for essential industrial systems. Three discharge ranges match long-duration energy needs, mixed loads and short high-current duties.

Robust pocket plate construction, a generous electrolyte reserve and straightforward maintenance support a life expectancy of more than 20 years at 25°C.

Choose the range for your duty

RangeRated capacityDischarge dutyTypical use
NALE10–375 AhLow rate · 1–100 hoursLong-duration backup and bulk energy storage
NAM9–335 AhMedium rate · 30 minutes–3 hoursBackup systems with mixed high and low loads
NAH9–210 AhHigh rate · less than 30 minutesShort-duration backup and engine starting

Nominal voltage: 1.2 V per cell. Rated capacity (C5) is measured over a five-hour discharge to 1.00 V per cell. Select the cell against the required current, backup duration and minimum system voltage.

Pocket plate technology

Long-duration energy

NALE

Thicker plates provide energy for relatively low currents over long discharge periods, supporting sustained power backup.

Mixed-load performance

NAM

Intermediate plate thickness balances energy and power for varied loads, including duties with both high and low discharge rates.

High-current power

NAH

Thin plates deliver high current for short periods, supporting starting applications and rapid power demands.

Built for industrial service

  • Steel pocket plates provide mechanical strength and resistance to electrical abuse, shock and vibration.
  • Polypropylene containers and visible electrolyte levels simplify inspection.
  • Bolted connections, protective terminal covers and flame-arresting flip-top vents support practical installation and maintenance.
  • Cells can be arranged on racks, in cabinets or as freestanding installations to suit the available space.

Applications

For power plants, substations, refineries, onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities, airports and building infrastructure.

  • Uninterruptible power supplies and process control
  • Switchgear, switching and transmission systems
  • Emergency lighting, security and industrial fire alarms
  • Signalling and DC instrumentation
  • Generator starting and emergency equipment

Charging and maintenance

For two-level charging, the float voltage is 1.42 ± 0.01 V per cell for NALE and 1.40 ± 0.01 V per cell for NAM and NAH. Single-level charging is specified at 1.43–1.50 V per cell. Charger settings should follow the selected cell range and operating conditions.

Inspect the battery, charger and associated equipment annually. Check electrolyte levels and top up as required; topping-up intervals depend on temperature and charging conditions.
